Let In|Sync Do The Work

Never time your signals again.

Since detection accuracy is crucial, In|Sync employs the Hawkeye 3D-UHD radar which delivers nearly 100% detection accuracy. The radar uses adaptive beam formation and can see up to 1000 feet. Its accuracy is enforcement certified. When paired with Hawkeye radar, In|Sync provides a variety of signal performance measures. Additionally, In|Sync is compatible with video detection.

In|Sync uses the fastest, NEMA-rated, DOT-approved processor in the traffic industry - Intel Core I5 processor. It is fully capable of handling Connected Vehicle (CV) operations.

Rhythm Engineering invented the patented concept of converting traffic signal operations into a Finite State Machine, or FSM.

In|Sync is a Finite State Machine, which is a mathematical model of computation that can be in any of the finite set of states at any given time. A state is defined as any concurrent traffic signal phase pair that can operate without conflict.

For example, Northbound left turn and Northbound through movement can operate concurrently.

At any given intersection, only eight such states are possible. Any overlaps at an intersection work in conjunction with these eight states.

Instead of relying on pre-set cycle lengths with tedious transition times, like most traffic signal synchronization methods, In|Sync uses a finite-state machine to digitize operations.

In|Sync uses a rule-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithm, The Greedy Algorithm, to synchronize vehicle demand with green durations at the intersection in real-time.

In|Sync allocates a token for every unique car that joins the queue and an additional token for every 5 seconds a car waits.

The Greedy Algorithm changes the traffic signal light status to minimize the number of tokens issued, producing unparalleled results in the field.

Global Optimization
In|Sync coordinates between traffic signals without increasing side street delay using a concept called “Time Tunnels.”

Time tunnels are created throughout the corridor in real time, with the slope of the tunnel indicating the speed of travel between traffic signals.

The green durations for various phases are based on the Greedy Algorithm, and the time-between-tunnels can vary as well.

Once you deploy In|Sync, your job will get a whole lot easier. Operating In|Sync is simple and maintenance is minimal. Once the traffic bot is adapting traffic to actual demand, there is little ongoing configuration or alteration work needed. With your improved traffic control plan, motorist behaviors evolve with the introduction of better traffic. From the comfort of your desk, you can use In|Sync’s interactive and flexible command center, In|Traffic, for monitoring and problem-solving. This includes access to In|Traffic on your computer, tablet or mobile device to live-view any of the In|Sync cameras in your system. You can troubleshoot intersections and reboot cameras without ever having to travel to the cabinet.

From In|Traffic you can monitor your In|Sync cameras at every intersection within a management group to make sure everything is running smoothly. From here, you can also record video to review traffic flow and patterns such as common complaints from drives during a certain time.

Change Local and
Global Optimizer Settings

Both local and global optimization can be adjusted within the Configuration Management tool within In|Traffic. This includes choosing the permitted phasing and sequencing for the local optimization and the amount of green time dedicated to coordinated movements for global optimization. Also, minimum light times, pedestrian phase information, green tunnel thresholds and demand-based coordinated tunnel movement can also be managed.

Manual Controls
From Your Desk

Within In|Traffic, there are manual controls that let you take over an intersection and control it directly. You can force demand on a phase, manually call a phase or initiate a pedestrian push button call. In|Traffic also shows the status of cameras, and it can be set up to send notifications when issues arise at the intersection. Along with that, you can perform some remote configurations for advanced traffic management.

Failure Mitigation

In|Sync is designed with robust failure mitigation capabilities that allow it to control traffic even when the system experiences some form of failure — notifying staff by email or SMS.

If communications are interrupted, In|Sync uses historical data to predict demand. This way, both the local and global optimization continues. Any hardware issues can be viewed from the In|Traffic and solved easily.
